Darshan Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 22, 2026 | Last Updated: August 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Darshan (“Darshan”, “we”, “us”, or “our”, operated under Ginis.in) handles information when you use the Darshan Android application and the accompanying web platform at darshan.ginis.in. Darshan is designed to securely transform an Android mobile phone into a private, high-performance security camera that can be viewed locally or remotely by an authorized user.
1. Information Darshan Accesses
🎥 Camera
Darshan accesses the device camera only after you grant the Android android.permission.CAMERA permission and explicitly initiate a camera node streaming session. Camera video is captured in real-time to provide peer-to-peer live camera monitoring functionality.
🎙️ Microphone
Darshan may access the device microphone only after you grant the Android android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO permission and when audio streaming is toggled on. Microphone audio is utilized solely to deliver live synchronized audio together with the video feed.
🌐 Network and Connection Information
Darshan utilizes network connectivity (Wi-Fi and mobile cellular data) to establish and maintain secure local and remote WebRTC streaming connections. The app processes technical telemetry including network reachability, signaling state, ephemeral room identifiers, device models, battery levels, and session statistics required for streaming stability.
2. How We Use Information
Information accessed and processed by Darshan is used exclusively for:
- Delivering low-latency peer-to-peer live camera and audio streaming.
- Establishing and authenticating authorized viewing sessions via unique Room IDs and optional PIN security codes.
- Maintaining, monitoring, and automatically recovering disrupted streaming connections.
- Reporting real-time node health telemetry (battery level, charging status, active frame rate, resolution) to the authorized device owner.
- Detecting technical anomalies, diagnosing connection failures, and improving platform reliability.
- Responding to user support and account management inquiries.
3. Real-Time Camera and Audio Streaming
Darshan is fundamentally a real-time streaming application powered by secure WebRTC protocols. When streaming is active, video and microphone audio are transmitted directly to the authorized viewer.
4. Background and Foreground-Service Streaming
To operate as a continuous home or office security camera without interruption, Darshan utilizes Android Foreground Services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_CAMERA and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE).
This allows camera streaming to continue reliably when the phone screen is turned off or when other applications are in use. Android explicitly displays a persistent, non-dismissible notification in the system status bar whenever the foreground service is active, ensuring complete transparency.
5. Data Sharing and Zero Commercialization
We do not sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal data or live streams to third parties or advertisers.
Camera video and audio feeds are encrypted and transmitted exclusively between your camera device and authorized viewing clients. Standard WebRTC signaling servers and STUN/TURN relay servers (hosted on our secure infrastructure) are utilized solely to negotiate network handshakes and relay packets when direct peer-to-peer routing is restricted by firewalls.
6. Data Storage and Zero Retention Policy
Zero Video/Audio Storage: Darshan does not record, retain, store, or analyze your live camera video or audio content on our servers. The moment a video frame or audio packet is received by the viewer, it is discarded.
Account profile data (such as your registered email address and paired device nicknames) is stored securely in our encrypted PostgreSQL database for account management and access control. Technical session logs (connection timestamps and session duration) are retained only for security audit and performance diagnostics.
7. Data Security and Encryption
We implement industry-standard cryptographic protocols to ensure maximum security:
- WebRTC Encryption: All media streams are encrypted end-to-end using DTLS (Datagram Transport Layer Security) and SRTP (Secure Real-time Transport Protocol).
- Signaling Security: All API communication and WebRTC signaling occur over encrypted HTTPS and WSS (WebSocket Secure) connections.
- Authentication: Account and admin authentication utilize industry-standard bcrypt password hashing and JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
8. Android Permissions Breakdown
| Permission | Purpose | Mandatory? |
|---|---|---|
CAMERA | Capture video from front/back device lens for live streaming | Yes (Camera Mode) |
RECORD_AUDIO | Capture microphone audio for synchronized live streaming | Optional |
INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Establish WebRTC signaling and stream media over Wi-Fi / LTE | Yes |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Maintain continuous camera operation when screen is locked | Yes |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Display ongoing stream status notification on Android 13+ | Yes |
You may review and revoke any of these permissions at any time through your Android device settings (Settings > Apps > Darshan > Permissions).
9. User Control and Data Deletion
You retain complete control over your hardware and personal data:
- Instant Stream Termination: You can stop camera broadcasting at any time by pressing the “STOP CAMERA” button in the app or closing the application.
- Account & Device Deletion: You can unpair devices directly from your web dashboard. To request complete deletion of your account and associated database records, email support@ginis.in with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”. All records will be permanently erased within 48 hours.
10. Children's Privacy
Darshan is a security and monitoring utility intended for general audiences and adult device owners. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can promptly delete the data.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect application updates, enhanced features, or evolving regulatory standards. Any revisions will be published on this page (https://darshan.ginis.in/privacy) with an updated effective date.
